CORINNA & STETSON – Barbara L. Garnett, 78, a resident of Sunshine Village, died April 26, 2003 at the Brewer Rehabilitation Center after a period of ill health. She was born August 16, 1924 at Stetson a daughter of Ralph and Clara (Hayden) Gray. Barbara was educated in Newport area schools and had worked at Eastland Woolen Mill and at Dexter Shoe Company until her retirement. She enjoyed camping, fishing and snowmobiling. She was a past member of the Newport and Exeter Snowmobile Clubs. She married Norman L. Garnett on July 4, 1944. He predeceased her on July 18, 1995.

She is survived by 4 children, Beverly and her husband Roger Kaufman of Dover-Foxcroft, Carleton Garnett and wife Carol of Corinna; Vivian and husband Llewellyn “Punky” Wilson of Newport, Candace and husband Maurice Beem of Exeter; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Winona Custer, Regena Tuttle, Theodora “Dody” Duplisea, and Sandra Graham; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Barbara was also predeceased by a sister Nedra.

An all family visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29th, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, from 12 noon until 2 PM. A graveside service will be held following the visiting hours at the family lot, North Newport Cemetery with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Barbara enjoyed watching Nokomis Warrior Girls Basketball. Those who wish may contribute to Nokomis Sports Boosters, c/o Mrs. Donna Beem, Nokomis Regional High, P.O. Box 100, Newport, ME 04953. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
