HARTLAND – Edith Gordon, 100, died July 31, 2003 at her Canaan Road residence. She was born December 16, 1902 at Lincoln a daughter of James William and Ethel (White) Banks. Edith received her normal school training at Lincoln Academy. She taught school in Chester and Woodville before marrying James E. Gordon, Sr., and later worked as a substitute teacher. After moving to Hartland, she worked as a forelady at the H.C. Baxter’s Canning Company in Hartland, and later transferred to the company cannery in Corinna. Edith was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartland, Evening Star Chapter #189, Order of The Eastern Star, and the Twilight Rebekahs. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son James E. Gordon, Jr., brothers Fred, John, Frank, and Lawrence “Pat”; and her sister Charlotte “Lottie” MacKenzie.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law with whom she made her home, Sharon Gordon of Hartland, 2 daughters, Charlotte and husband Willis “Bill” McDougal of Hartland, Rosalie and husband George Merrow of Patten; 2 sisters, Ethel Lezberg and Phyllis Banks, both of Lincoln; 5 grandsons; 11 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday, August 3rd, at the First Baptist Church of Hartland with the Rev. Timothy Pemper officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 510, Hartland, ME 04943. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport.
