HARMONY - Elsie B. (Holland) Annis, affectionately known as Betty to her friends and family, wife of the Philip C. Annis of Harmony died December 29, 2002 at Redington Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan after a brief illness. She was born November 30, 1923 in Gloucester, England the younger of two children, to Albert and Ethel M. (Kent) Holland. Betty was educated at Mount Street School, St. Catherine's Elementary and Girls Central School in Glouster, England. While at Girl's Central she participated in and excelled at Field Hockey. After completing her education she accepted employment as a records clerk with the Royal Air Force in Gloucester, England during the war. On October 14, 1944 she married Phillip C. Annis, an American soldier, in Glouster, England. Betty came to the United States in April of 1946 aboard the Queen Mary. Betty proudly became a United States citizen on May 12, 1955. Betty worked for many years at Sandler Shoe Company, Delong's Sportswear Inc., and retired from Dexter Shoe Company in 1985.

In addition to her husband Phillip, Betty is survived by a brother Herbert and his wife Doreen of Glouster, England, her five children Vernon and his wife Roberta of Newport Center, VT, Gerald and his wife Candy, Roger and his wife Pam, Brian and his wife Lana, a daughter Pammy all of Harmony, and her special friend Jim Nethercutt of North Carolina, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by many many nieces and nephews, also a special cousin Helen Brooks of Essex, England.

A memorial celebration of Betty's life was held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 4, 2003 at the Harmony Baptist Church. Private Burial will be in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Harmony Ambulance and/or Fire Department. Arrangements by Pine State Cremation Service.
