PITTSFIELD - Galen N. Spencer, 70, died February 16, 2002 at the USVA hospital in Togus. He was born December 17, 1931 at Greenbush the son of William and Mary (Harris) Spencer. He graduated form Maine Central Institute, Class of 1951. Galen was a U.S. Army corporal working in the military nuclear weapons program. He was employed for many years at the Hartland Tannery, the Hermon Mountain Ski Area, and retired from the Edwards Company in Pittsfield in 1999.

He is survived by 2 sons, Galen Spencer of Palmyra and Scott Spencer of Clinton; 3 daughters, Tanya Spencer and April Cookson, both of Albion, and Eugena Spencer of Detroit; a brother Claremont Spencer of Pittsfield; 2 sisters, Muriel York of Pittsfield and Priscilla Grant of Brooklin; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 10 A.M. Wednesday, February 20th. Spring burial will be in the Village Cemetery, Pittsfield.
