HAROLD W. "HAL" HANSON
Hal and his wife Bea moved to their current home in Fairfield in 1957, where he served in many organizations, including as a member of the Board of the Fairfield PAL, Indian Guides, and he supported the Special Olympics Torch Run for many years. Hal was Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 470 for many years, and he hiked the entire Appalachian Trail in Maine. He was also a member of the Maine Appalachian Trail Club, where he served as a director, overseer of Trail for Central Maine, and had his own section of the trail that he maintained. He was also a life member of the Good Sam Club and past president of the Kennebec River Rovers camping club. He was also licensed as an amateur radio operator. After retiring in 1992 from Maine Biological Laboratories of Winslow, he and his wife traveled in their RV to many places around Maine and as far away as Alaska. Hal was predeceased by his brothers Melvin Hanson and Robert Hanson, and his sister Margaret (Hanson) Hodges. He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Beatrice (Wilbur) Hanson; his two sons, Bruce Hanson, and Don Hanson and daughter-in-law Trudy (Monk) Hanson; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home.
