HARVEY E. WILLIS
NEWPORT—Harvey E. Willis, 71, beloved husband of the late Helen M. Willis, died September 15, 2003 at a Pittsfield hospital after a brief illness. He was born March 15, 1932 at Brockton, Mass., the son of Clinton H. and Mildred E. (Goulding) Willis. He graduated from Whitman High School, Whitman, MA, Class of 1950. Harvey had been employed at Rautenberg Leather Corp. for 30 years and later at Irving Tannery in Hartland and Spot Built Shoe, in Bangor. Together with his wife Helen, they also operated boarding homes for veterans in Brockton and Bridgewater, MA for many years before moving to Newport in 1981. He was an active Boy Scout leader in Bridgewater, MA and enjoyed being a ham radio operator.

He is survived by his children, Donna (Willis) Fabiani and husband Ron, Sr. of Newport, NH, Sandra (Willis) Gowin of Hanson, MA, Sandra (Carroll) Slater and husband Robert of Bridgewater, MA, Donna (McCaul) Garrod and husband Wayne of Newport, Richard McCaul of Sealy, TX, Barry McCaul and wife Jane of Plymouth, and Wayne McCaul of Brockton, MA; a sister, Nancy Helander and husband Carl of Brockton, MA; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Kenny and a sister, Norma (Willis) Bradley. Harvey will always be loved and sadly missed by all who knew him.

According to Harvey’s wishes, there will be a graveside service at 10 A.M. Saturday, September 20th at the Riverside Cemetery, Newport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Palmyra Baptist Church Soup Kitchen, PO Box 68, U.S. Route 2, Palmyra, ME 04965.
