HERBERT P. SNOW
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Herbert P. Snow, 84, husband of Frances (Bragg) Snow, died Sept. 30, 2006, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. He was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Lyle M. and Katheryn (Osgood) Snow. He attended Foxcroft Academy and graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, Class of 1941. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and trained as an airplane mechanic in Chanute Field, Ill. Herb was stationed in Eglin Field, Fla., as a line chief. He signed up for the Air Force Cadet Pilot training program for fighter pilot training and received his wings as a pilot to fly P-47's. Herb was discharged in 1946 and then purchased the Kokadjo Sporting Camps, store and fourth class post office, which he ran until October 1966. Herb began work at the Dover-Foxcroft Post Office in 1966 and retired in 1978. He was a 50-year member of the Mosaic Lodge No. 52 AF & AM, a long time member of the Piscataquis Valley Snowmobile Club and a member of the Chadbourne Merrill American Legion Post No. 29. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and working his wood lot, along with many other activities.

In addition to his loving wife of 61 years, Frances; he is survived by three sons, Thomas L. and wife, Lynne, of Bradford, Terry F. and wife, Judy, of Dover-Foxcroft and Peter J. and wife, Cheri, of Dover-Foxcroft; a daughter, Nancy Seddon and husband, John, of Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, one great-granddaughter and four great-stepgrand-children.

A graveside memorial service at the Atkinson Corner Cemetery with the Rev. David Mumford officiating will be for the family. Friends are invited to call 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the family home, 14 Mayo St., Dover-Foxcroft, for a time of remembering. Those who wish may make donations to either the Piscataquis Regional YMCA, 48 Park St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426 or the American Heart Association, 51 U.S. Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074, in Herb's memory. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.
