James Alden Murray
NEWPORT – James Alden Murray, 89, died February 6, 2013 at his residence. Heaven received a good man that day. Jim was born October 18, 1923 in Greenville, a son of Eugene and Goldena (Collins) Murray. He attended Brewer High School and served in the U. S. Army in the European, North African and Middle Eastern theatres during World War II. He was involved in the landing at Anzio Beach in Italy serving as a tank driver.

After the war, Jim worked at Viner’s Shoe as a foreman, and later, at Emple’s Knitting Mill. During that time he also worked as a taxi driver in Bangor. Jim started Murray Construction Company, building apartment buildings and various homes in the area. He built Beverly’s Hair Fashions for his wife Beverly, and also started The Old Dutch Treat ice cream shop in Trenton which has operated for 45 summers.

He was an avid skier and golfer. Jim was a Mason, affiliated with the Benevolent Lodge in Carmel and Meridian Splendor Lodge in Newport. In his later years, he enjoyed tinkering on anything broken. The family said he was a jack of all trades, but now a master craftsman in Heaven.

He is survived by his son Danny and fiancée Debbie Bishop, his daughter, Debbie and husband Randy Davis, all of Newport; a brother, Charles Murray of Indialantic, FL; a sister, Lena and husband Frank Pray of Newport; a sister in law and husband, Gloria and Kip Soule of Bar Harbor; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Beverly (Garland) Murray, and his sister in law Frances Murray. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Graveside funeral and committal services will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, May 11th, at Riverside Cemetery, Newport. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. NEWPORT – Graveside funeral and committal services with military honors for James A. Murray, who died February 6, 2013, will be held 1 PM Saturday, May 11th, at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Murray officiating.
Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
