OBITUARIES

JOHN W. BATCHELDER
BANGOR AND GARLAND, John W. Batchelder, 95, died July 14, 2002 at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Bangor. He was born January 23, 1907 in Garland, son of William and Mertie (McComb) Batchelder. He was educated in Garland schools and graduated from Garland High School. He then graduated from the University of Maine in Orono in 1931 with a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering. After college he move to Jay where he lived for most of his life working for International Paper Company. In 1942 he enlisted in the US Army serving in the Chemical Corps. attaining the rank of Captain. After the service he returned to International Paper Company retiring in 1970. He was an avid Ham radio operator since 1930 and kept up his license until the time of his death. He was predeceased by his wife Helen (Dye) Batchelder, a brother, Charles W. Batchelder, and a sister, Nina Gray.

He is survived by two cousins, several nieces and nephews. At his request there will be no public calling hours. Graveside services will be held 11 AM Thursday at the Evergreen Cemetery in Garland with Paul Washburn officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.
