Kim R. Rees BREWER - Kim R. Rees, 53, died unexpectedly, April 30, 2006. He was born Sept. 10, 1952, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Harold R. and Maude (Rollins) Rees. Kim graduated from Piscataquis Community High School, Class of 1970, he attended the University of Maine in Portland-Gorham and served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, 1972-1975. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. After the war, he was a mountain climbing instructor in Switzerland and when he returned home he completed his education and received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maine at Gorham in 1978. He also received a Master of Arts in education and a CAS in administration. He taught at the Glenburn Elementary School for 20 years and for much of that time, he also served as assistant principal. For the last seven years, he taught at the William S. Cohen School in Bangor. Throughout the years, he coached basketball at both schools, as well as at the Bangor YMCA and local recreational leagues, where he led many of his teams to championship seasons. Kim was a loyal 30-year member of the Abner-Wade Masonic Lodge, as well as a 26-year member of the Scott Flanders American Legion Post. Kim was a loving, husband, incredible father, devoted son and an extraordinary teacher and coach, who had an exceptional gift for inspiring students to strive for their best. He was well loved by friends, colleagues and students. His sense of humor, quick smile and ready laugh would brighten any room. He was a truly remarkable man.

In addition to his beloved wife of 23 years, Penny, he is survived by his two sons, Brett and Kyle; his parents, Harold and Maude of Sangerville; one sister, Diana Bowley and her husband, Richard, of Sangerville; three brothers, Eugene Rees and his wife, Ellie, of Sangerville, Harold Rees Jr. and his wife, Shirley, of Washington, D.C., Gary Rees and his wife, Tony, of Newport; in-laws, Arthur and Maria Brountas of Bangor; brother-in-law, Peter Brountas and his wife, Heather, of Bangor; sister-in-law, Jeannie Brountas of Boston, Mass.; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Larry and Jackie Rich of Walnut Creek, Calif.

Friends are welcome to call 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4, at Brookings-Smith, Bangor with the Rev. Elaine Beth Peresluha officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. All are invited to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith, Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the interment.
