LARRY W. TIBBETTS
EAST NEWPORTóLarry W. Tibbetts, 64, died unexpectedly November 18, 2002 at Great Moose Pond in St. Albans. Hewas born March 15, 1938 at St. Albans, a son of Ted Tibbetts and Kathleen Parker. After graduating from Newport High School in 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force to serve his country. In 1960, Larry returned to Newport where he made his home. He was employed at the Cummings Woolen Mill, Dexter Shoe Company, and as a USDA food inspector, retiring in 1984. Larry and his beloved wife Ruth then owned and operated the East Newport Grocery for 14 years, having retired only weeks ago. He was looking forward to enjoying his new home on Moose Pond with his family and friends. Larry enjoyed fishing, metal detecting, vintage cars and mostly,the company of his family and many friends.

In addition to his mother, Kathleen Brooks of Hartland, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ruth Elaine Tibbetts of East Newport; 3 daughters, Charlene Gray of Castlehill, Penny Metivier and husband Henry of Newport and Sue Alma of Sandwich, MA; his mother-in-law, Ruth Shaw of Etna; 5 grandchildren, Tasha and Ashley Gray, both of Plymouth, Justin and Trevor Metivier, both of Newport and Jaimee Alma of Sandwich, MA. Larry was blessed with many brothers and sisters. Surviving him are Foster Brooks and wife, Jackie, Phyllis (Brooks) Braley and husband Tom, Dale Brooks and wife Jeanne, and Wendy Brooks, all of Hartland, Danny Brooks of Burnham, Deborah (Brooks) Veryonci and husband David of Winslow; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Jane McMorrow and husband Mike of Newport; brother-in-law, David Shaw and wife Eileen of New Hampshire; and many loving friends, including Ginger and George Phelps, with whom they belonged to a home fellowship group since 1980, as well as Betty Morrison of Pittsfield, Donna Morris of Sandwich, MA and Moe Godine of Etna. He was predeceased by his brother, Sherwood Brooks in 1977.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday, November 21st at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held at 8 P.M. with the Rev. Steve Nute officiating. Spring burial will be in the family lot, Riverside Cemetery, Newport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Newport Community Food Bank, 26 High Street, Newport, ME 04953.
