OBITUARIES

MADELINE (BRAGDON) ROLLINS
GUILFORD AND MILLINOCKET, Madeline (Bragdon) Rollins, 96, wife of the late Arthur Rollins, passed away March 2, 2006, in Millinocket. She was born in Guilford, October 25, 1909, the youngest child of Charles and Eva (Hardy) Bragdon. She attended the local schools. She married at a young age and always said she grew up with her children. She spent most of her married years living in Sangerville and Guilford, and working in the local mills for 27 years. In 1947 she and her husband built a camp on “Moosehead Lake” in Rockwood. She could look out onto Mt. Kineo and watch the beautiful sunsets and sunrises shining across the water. In 1954 they moved to Rockwood and started “Rollins Camps”. Her husband became a Maine Guide and guided hunting and fishing parties, and she worked at different motels and sporting camps in the area. During the winter months they worked in Massachusetts and Vermont, and spent many winters in St. Petersburg, Florida.

She spent many hours on the shores of Moosehead Lake and Brassua Lake searching for driftwood and colorful rocks to make lamps and many other novelties. She loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and camping, and was still cross country skiing in her 80’s. She was an avid cribbage player and everywhere she went, her cribbage board went with her. She taught her grandchildren how to play cribbage so she could always have many partners. She was always surrounded by her loving family, enjoying time spent with them. In 1974 she and her husband retired, and moved back to Guilford making their home in a trailer home next to their daughter Dorothy, and her husband, Herbert Flint. She attended Grace Bible Church in Sangerville, and belonged to the “Silver Saints” Club at the church. In 2000, she moved to Millinocket to live with her daughter, Charlene Deane, and remained there until the time of her death. While living in Millinocket, she attended the First Congregational Church. The members called her “Gram Rollins”.

She is survived by a son, Maurice Rollins, and his wife Betty, of Bellingham, Wash.; 3 daughters, Barbara and her husband, Gordon Cole, of Dover-Foxcroft, Charlene Deane of Millinocket, and Dorothy and her husband, Herbert Flint, of Guilford; four special nieces; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and one great-great-great grandchild, making her’s a 6-generation family. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 58 years, a brother, Roy Bragdon, and a sister, Phoebe Raymond, a grandson, Michael Rollins, and a son-in-law, Albert Deane.
