NEWPORT – Marguerite (Briggs) Garrison, 92, went to tend God’s garden October 30, 2005. She was born January 2, 1913 in Hudson a daughter of Albert and Mabel (Miles) Briggs. She attended schools in Hudson and Corinth, graduating from East Corinth Academy. Marguerite worked in sporting camps in Kokadjo as a girl, and later, in woolen mills in Clinton, Corinna, Guilford, and Claremont, NH. She was known as a hard worker. She loved nature, flowers and gardening, and visiting the woodlands. She also loved to feed and watch the birds, and will be remembered as a great cook.

She is survived by a son, Glen Garrison and wife Marion of Toledo, OH; 2 daughters, Betty Reckards of Rockwood, Barbara Fletcher and husband Harold “Cuffy” Fletcher of Newport; a brother Albert Briggs and wife Lucille of Glenburn; sisters, Dorothy Gosselin of East Eddington and Madeline Andrews of Bangor. Her grandchildren include Deborah Turner of Palmyra and her son David Turner of Weston, FL, Kathy Walston and Laurie Wright of Detroit, Glen Garrison III of Michigan, Nevada Mott of Poland, Russell and Donald Hunnewell, both of Atlanta, GA, Lance Hunnewell and Robin Beckwith, both of Yarmouth; and many special great grandchildren, as well as nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Glen Garrison and a daughter, Anna Louise Garrison, a brother Henry Briggs, twin sisters, Eileen and Arlene Briggs and a sister Joyce Milan.

A memorial service will be held 1 PM Saturday, November 26th at High Street Church, Newport, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Burial will be in Morses Corner Cemetery, Corinna. Donations may be made to Community Health and Counseling Services, 42 Cedar Street, Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 117 Main Street, Newport.
