PHILIP EARL WEATHERBEE
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Philip Earl Weatherbee, 80, died June 17, 2005, in Dover-Foxcroft. Phil was born May 23, 1925, in Dover-Foxcroft to Earl C. Weatherbee and Vivian Berry Weatherbee. He graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1945. Phil served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was in partnership with his brother, Bob, for many years in the plumbing and hardware store that their grandfather had started, known as Weatherbee's Hardware. He was past president of the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club, director of the Dover-Foxcroft Housing Development Corporation, and he served on the board of directors for the Trustworthy chain of hardware stores when they first originated in eastern Maine. In his younger years, Phil was a star catcher for several local baseball teams and remained a lifelong Red Sox fan. Later in life, he enjoyed his artwork, which he called his doodles, and which provided fun and laughter for him and all those who encountered it. Phil was best known for his warm personality, charming smile, and never-ending wit.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; his daughter, Pam; his grandchildren, Mike and Laura Doore; his sister, Gail Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Ruth, Ellen, and Phyllis; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Glenn Doore. He was predeceased by his brothers, Bob, Lee and Kerm; his son, Jon and his first wife, Pat; and a brother-in-law, Philip Lincoln.

A celebration of Phil's life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, at the Congregational Church in Dover-Foxcroft, to be followed by a reception for family and friends in the chapel. Please bring stories and fond memories to share. Those who wish may make donations in Phil's memory to the Jon B. Weatherbee Scholarship Fund, Foxcroft Academy, 975 West Main St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.
