GREENVILLE - Robert J. Johnson Smith Sr., died March 7, 2002. He was born in Milo, the third son of Raymond W. Smith of Greenville and Marjorie Stubbs of Brownville Junction, April 7, 1934. He attended Greenville schools, and graduated from high school in 1953. After service with the USMC, he attended F.S.T.C., graduating in 1961, following a two-year sabbatical at Oxford Paper Company. From 1961 to 1984, he was a teacher/administrator at schools in Winterport, Stockton, Rockland, Searsport and Allagash. He was also employed for a number of years with various federal, state and county departments, retiring from Piscataquis County employment. Acquaintances will remember him for his ceaseless efforts to eliminate alcohol in any form. He was predeceased by his father in 1975, mother in October of 2001, brothers, Raymond in 1931 and Louis in 1980; his wife, Sallyanne Blanchard in 1966; and his fiancee, Thursie Manley in 1975. He was also predeceased by his three labs, all Kaisers.

He is survived by a brother, Raymond and wife, Betty of Mountain Home, Ark.; a sister, Jean King and her sister, Ester; his children, Robert of Greenville, Debbie Quinn of Greenville, Pamela Collins and Mick of Camden, Brian and wife, Carolyn of Belfast and Kurt of Camden and Florida; also grandchildren, Chris and Sally Quinn, Briana Collins and Matthew, Julianne, Andrew, Heather and Mark Smith; and a special aunt, Jean Hanson. We love you Dad and grandpa.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the People's United Methodist Church in Shirley.
