Ronald Cook Harris
GREENVILLE AND MONSON- Ronald Cook Harris, 62, of Greenville, Maine died unexpectedly while camping in Township 4, Range 18, W.E.L.S., Somerset County, on July 29, 2013. He was born in Greenville, June 23, 1951, the 5th of 5 children, born to Augustus Goldsmith Harris and Millicent Cook Harris of Monson, Maine.

Ronnie was raised on Homer Hill in Monson and graduated from Monson Academy in 1969, the last class to graduate from the Academy before consolidation with Foxcroft Academy. During his years at the Academy, he was very active in winter sports and could always be counted on to bring home blue ribbons in both skiing and snowshoeing competitions. He was also quite talented in the art of snow sculpturing. In 1968, he was one of two managers of the Monson Academy Slaters basketball team that won the State Small School championship.

Within 2 years of graduation, he was inducted into the United States Army on February 10, 1971. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam from November 28, 1971 to November 12, 1972. Because of his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 DVCE, and the Army Commendation Medal. Leaving the regular Army after returning home from Vietnam, he served with the United States Army Reserve until February 9, 1977, when he was honorably discharged.

Ronnie lived and worked all of his life in the Monson/Greenville area. He had a strong work ethic and was a dedicated employee of L&L Management in Greenville for the past 25 years. In all of those years he never missed a scheduled work day.

Ronnie had a great love and appreciation of the outdoors and could be found enjoying his favorite pastime, "ice fishing" on Lake Hebron during the winter months and at various "fishing holes" in the Moosehead area during the rest of the year.

He is survived by 2 brothers and 2 sisters; William Harris and his wife, Sophie of Danvers, MA, Robert Harris and his wife, Dolly of Greenville, Jane Harris of Monson, and Elaine Harris Roberts of Abbot; plus many nieces and nephews and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents.

He will be sadly missed and remembered by all of his friends and "fishing Buddies", including his long time friends, the Brown family; and special friends, Janice Lavigne and Karen Elsemore.

Graveside services with military honors, will be held 11 AM, Friday, August 9, 2013, at the Greenville Cemetery.
