DOVER-FOXCROFT - Ruth L. Andrews, wife of the late Fred E. Andrews, passed away quietly, Jan. 16, 2002, at a local hospital, from complications following surgery. She was born Dec. 6, 1914, in Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of Archie and Ida (Buck) Lyford. Ruth was a hairdresser in Dover-Foxcroft, and operated a business for many years from her home on Pine Street, where many friends were made throughout the years. She was also active in the Methodist Church, knitting many sets of mittens, and baking lots of brown bread for church fairs and suppers. In her later years, Ruth lived with her sister, Margaret, and they spent their winters in Ft. Pierce, Fla., where they have many dear friends, and especially enjoyed "Club" on Tuesday mornings. As a young mother, Ruth and her family lived in many different places throughout the country, as Fred's textile business demanded. One of her favorite stories was, while in Texas, the fresh Maine tree dried out before Christmas and she went outside, into the desert, and brought in a tumbleweed, which she then spray painted green and decorated. This kind of "make-do" spirit was typical of Ruth-who always saw the bright side of life.

Ruth leaves her sister and best friend, Margaret Harter; and two brothers, Raymond and his wife, Violet Lyford and Archie Lyford, all of Dover-Foxcroft. She will be very missed by her son, Frederick and his wife, Susan of Dover-Foxcroft; and her granddaughters, Sydney and Jessamyn; as well as her two stepdaughters, Donna Bessey and her husband, Leland of Albion, and Lois Carsley of Winslow. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred E. Andrews; her stepson, Bowen Andrews; and three brothers, Malcolm, Charles and Merle Lyford. Her proudest accomplishment was her family and she loved the times they would all get together, sharing stories and time together.

Graveside memorial services in Dover Cemetery will be announced by the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, in the spring. Those who wish to remember Ruth in a special way may contribute to the Dover-Foxcroft United Methodist Church, 38 E. Main St., Dover-Foxcroft 04426.
