STEPHEN JOHN MITCHELL
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Stephen John Mitchell, 74, husband of Eunice (Merrill) Kinney Mitchell, died March 12, 2002, at a local hospital. He was born April 30, 1927, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Clinton and Margaret (Brown) Mitchell. John was a graduate of Foxcroft Academy, Class of 1945, and the University of Maine at Orono, Class of 1951. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in Panama. He worked as a surveyor and draftsman for Betchel Corporation in Los Angeles, as well as checking grade and specifications on a section of the Maine turnpike in the Portland area. He later cleared land and improved drainage at Rex Varnum Farms. John was a member of the East Dover Grange for 55 years, the Chadbourne Merrill American Legion Post No. 29, the Dover-Foxcroft Historical Society, and he attended Dover-Foxcroft United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice of Dover-Foxcroft; a step-daughter, Elaine (Kinney) Campbell and her husband, Bruce and their boys, Brian and Matthew, all of Meredith, N.H.; three brothers, Myron of North Hills, Calif., William of Dover-Foxcroft, and Richard of Sangerville; three sisters, Jane Waltz of Levant, Mildred Jackson of E. Baldwin, and Evelyn Cookson of Westbrook. He was predeceased by two sisters, Alice and Marilyn; and a brother, Arthur.

Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2002, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with American Legion services said at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the funeral home, with the Rev.
