PARKMAN, William H. Underwood, 83, died suddenly, October 8, 2002, at his home in Parkman. Bill was born February 13, 1919, in west Longbranch, New Jersey, son of William and Jetti Mae (Boyle) Underwood. He spent his early years on a farm in Freehold, New Jersey, in what was then rural Monmouth County. After a brief Army career in Hawaii during WWII, he returned to New Jersey where he met and married his wife of 37 years, Marian S. Hagelgans, of Cape May, New Jersey. Bill spent his entire career of 38 years as a freight conductor with the Pennsylvania Railroad, which later became the Penn Central Railroad. He retired in 1982 at which time he moved to his home in Parkman, Maine.

Bill is survived by two sons and their wives, William C. and Sandi Underwood of Verga, New Jersey and Donald P. and Susan Underwood of Wertmont, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Donald P. Underwood, Robert B. Underwood, Hans G. Underwood and Beth Anne Otto all of New Jersey and four great grandchildren.

At Billís request, the funeral service and Christian burial were privately held in Cold Spring Cemetery in Cape May, New Jersey. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.
