ABBOT, Zelda Opal Richards, 90, died March 17, 2003 at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born October 9, 1912, in Monson, daughter of Philip and Mary (Dicker) Potter. Zelda worked on the farm for many years with her husband, Allison W. Richards, who predeceased her in 1991. She drove the school bus for SAD #4 for 37 years and was a member of the Pythian Sisters in Abbot for over 60 years.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Larry and Peggy Richards of Abbot; 2 daughters and their husbands, Marion and Robert Kallgren of Abbot and Dodie and Barry Crouse of Abbot; 9 grandchildren, Stuart Kallgren of Millinocket, Kathy and her husband Lance Pulkkinen of Guilford, Bruce and his wife, Sally Kallgren of Guilford, Shane Crouse and his fiancé, Ronda Priest of Sangerville, Lynn and her husband, Tyler Blake of Bangor, Scott and his wife, Shani Richards of Monson, Mary and her husband, Travis Pratt of Guilford, Amy Richards and Susan Richards both of Sangerville; 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and their wives, Harland and Pat Kirk of Edmonds, Washington and Ervin and Celia Kirk of Abbot and Florida; sister-in-law, Beatrice Potter of Bangor; special niece, Althea Bennett of Abbot; special friends, Sharon Lord of Sangerville and Frank Hillman of Abbot; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 4 brothers, Urban Kirk, Raymond, Philip and Donald Potter; 3 sisters, Ernestine Potter Smiley, Inga Kirk Knaide, and Mae Kirk Race.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford with the Rev. Dr. Margaret “Dodie” Stowe officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home 6-8 PM Friday and for an hour before the time of the service on Saturday. Graveside committal services will be held 2 PM Friday May 23, 2003, at the Lawn Cemetery in Guilford, with the Rev. Dr. Margaret "Dodie" Stowe officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in her memory for Abbot higher education and may be sent to Town of Abbot, P.O. Box 120, Abbot, ME 04406 or to the Abbot Historical Society, P.O. Box 105, Abbot, ME 04406, or to the charity of your choice.
