Yard Sale to benefit Families And Children Together Families And Children Together serves relative caregivers, called grandfamilies, through its Maine Kids-Kin program. This unique and innovative program provides information and referrals on legal, financial and family challenges. They also provide respite and emergency funds; a resource library; clothing exchange; support groups; and family activities. Currently, there are over 11,000 Maine children who live with their relatives. All money raised at this event will support The Pay It Forward Fund. This fund assists grandfamilies in crisis. It has bought fuel for families to stay warm during the winter, kept the electricity on, paid for a babysitter when the grandparent is sick, and much more. When families receive funds they agree to pay it forward by helping someone else in need. Families might offer babysitting to another family, provide transportation to an elderly neighbor, or maybe knit hat and mittens for children. The possibilities are endless.
