OBITUARIES

ALFRED L. "JOHNNY" JOHNSTON
GUILFORD, Alfred L. “Johnny” Johnston, 80, died at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor from heart complications, December 15, 2003. He was born October 12, 1923, in Waterville, son of Dr. Alfred and Mabel (Whitaker) Johnston. He graduated from Guilford High School class of 1943 and then enlisted in the US Navy during WWII, serving in the Mediterranean. Following the service he became the co-owner of Johnston and Hibbard Garage in Guilford. In 1983 he sold his interest in the Garage and worked for Pride Manufacturing in Guilford until his retirement. He was a life member of Mt. Kineo Masonic Lodge #109, the United Methodist Church and the Guilford Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (LaBree) Johnston of Guilford; a son and his wife, Fred and Linda Johnston of Dover-Foxcroft; a daughter, Rebecca Johnston of Guilford; 2 brothers and their wives, George and Bernadette Johnston of Florida, and William and Julie Johnston of Virginia; a sister and her husband, Catherine and Paul Ruksznis of Guilford; 3 granddaughters, Jessica and Stephanie Johnston and Sarah Lovell.

Friends may call 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak Street in Guilford. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Guilford with the Rev. Dr. Margaret “Dodie” Stowe officiating. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make donations to the American Heart Assn., 343 Gorham Road, So. Portland, Maine 04106, or to the Guilford Fire Dept., P.O. Box 420, Guilford, Me 04443.

Graveside committal services will be held 10 AM, Thursday, May 13, 2004, at the Lawn Cemetery in Guilford with the Rev. Dr. Margaret "Dodie" Stowe officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.
