OBITUARIES

ALICE R. CHESBRO
GREENVILLE, Life’s journey came to an end on Sunday, February 15, 2009 for Alice R. Chesbro. She lived a long life with many adventures, travels and memories, some dimmed by age but never-the-less that is what made her the determined and private person that she was.

Alice was born on March 27, 1909 in Winchester, Mass. the fifth child of parents Henry E. Lingham and Gertrude (Edmands) Lingham of Roxbury, Mass. She was predeceased by her mother Gertrude in 1913 and in 1920 moved with her father and step mother Martha Hatch Lingham from Winchester to Watertown, Mass. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1928. After graduation she worked in her step-mother’s bread business, attended Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing, and attended an art school in Boston, until sickness prevented her from finishing. She worked as a dental assistant in Newton, Mass. for one year. In 1937 she married Forrest D. Robinson and moved to Chatham, Mass. where they raised their two children. In 1949 she and Forrest and children moved to Orleans, Mass.

Forrest died in 1967. In 1976 she married Albert L. Chesbro and together they built a home in East Harwich, where she remained after his death in 1989. In 1992 Alice moved to Kittery, Maine to be near her daughter and family and lived there for 12 years. At the age of 94 Alice needed assisted living and eventually required nursing care. She came to Greenville, Maine in 2005 as her daughter had moved to Rockwood and remained at C.A. Dean Nursing Home until her death at age 99.

Alice loved and enjoyed her family as well as oil painting, playing the piano, beach combing on Cape Cod, collecting old bottles and buoys she found, and she loved to play Scrabble. Reading was another favorite pastime. Fond memories for her were a cross-country trip in a converted VW Bus with Forrest in 1965, and renovating their 200 year old home in Orleans, Mass.

In 2006 Alice shared an award of the Boston Post Cane with another Greenville resident.

Alice is survived by a daughter, Almira J.(Robinson) Parady and her husband, Bill; and a son John Alfred Robinson and his wife, Martha; seven grand children, Louis, Kelly Jane, Bradford, Chester, Anne Elizabeth, John A. Jr. and Danny; seven great grandchildren, Angela, Ashley, Tasha, Sam, Emma, Kerri, and Garrett; and one great-great grandson, Logan. Alice was predeceased by her parents, Henry E. Lingham and Gertrude Edmands Lingham, her step-mother Martha H. Lingham; two brothers, Edmands and Clarence; and two sisters, Gertrude and Ruth Lingham.

Other special people in her life are Lorie, Joe, Basil, Antonio, Tom and Sofia, and many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Wendy Mazer.

The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care of the staff at C.A. Dean Hospital & Nursing Home during Alice’s final years. A memorial service will be held in Orleans, Mass. at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Guilford. For an online guest register, go to www.CrosbyNeal.com.
