ALTA W. NOBLE
MILO, Alta W. Noble, 98, widow of Everett R. Noble, died Friday, March 30, 2007, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born in Brownville, December 21, 1908, daughter of John H. and Idella (Bell) Welch. She lived in Blaine, Mars Hill and Houlton before moving to Thomaston in 1940. Alta was a Life Member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Friendship Chapter #140, Mars Hill. She was educated at ACI in Mars Hill and Aroostook State Normal School in Presque Isle. She taught in Caswell and Houlton for six years. She was active in the American Red Cross during WWII, and served as Captain of the Motor Corp. in Knox County. She volunteered in the Cancer Society and later was on the staff of the Maine Division of the American Cancer Society in Brunswick, with a total of 24 years in Cancer education. She enjoyed the cottage at Ebeeme Pond and 27 winters spent in Edgewater, Florida. She attended the Brownville Community Church for many years.
She is survived by a sister-in-law Mina Beals of MA; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a dear friend, Margaret Foukles. She will be missed by those she called her family and many other friends.
Later in life Alta became a member of the Park Street United Methodist Church in Milo, where memorial services will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, April 9, 2007, at the Park Street United Methodist Church, with Rev. Michelle St. Cyr officiating. Burial will be in the Brownville Cemetery, later in the spring.
