ARLENE N. MERRILL
NEWPORT - Arlene N. Merrill, 80, died June 26, 2001 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born March 29, 1921 at Sangerville the daughter of George and Elsie (Grant) Hill. She graduated from Foxcroft Academy, Class of 1939, and was employed for many years at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna, retiring in 1982. In her early years, Arlene was an avid gardener. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by 2 sons, Gayland Merrill of Vero Beach, Florida, Richard Merrill and friend Maureen Adams of Hartland; 2 daughters, Sharon and husband Albert Richardson of Franklin, Indiana, Pam and husband Gregg Buckland of Detroit; a sister, Ruth Bell of Corinna; 5 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and special friends, Grace Lander and Vera Shaw.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Thursday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 10 A.M. Friday, June 29th, with the Rev. Michael Stephenson, Pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Newport officiating. Private burial will be in the family lot, Knowlton Mills Cemetery, Sangerville.
