OBITUARIES
AZURE JANE DILLON
EXETER - Azure Jane Dillon, 18, died December 21, 2002 at Guilford as the result of an automobile
accident. She was born October 22, 1984 at Plymouth, MA a daughter of Paul and Genie (Freund)
Dillon. For nine years she attended Bangor Christian Schools. She was currently a 5th year senior at
Foxcroft Academy having spent the last year as an exchange student in Germany having been awarded
the Congress-Bundestag Scholarship. While at Foxcroft Academy she maintained highest honors and
was a member of the National Honor Society. She was currently yearbook editor, a member of “FA”
Masque and Chorus, Kiwanis Key Club, Varsity Tennis, All State Chorus 2002 and All State
Orchestra Harpist 2000, and a National Merit Commended Scholar. Also during her high school
years, she participated in the Concert Band, Latin Club, Varsity Swim Team, Field Hockey, Indoor
Track and won 1st Place in the State Science Fair. She attended the Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Azure was a member of the Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestra as principal harpist and was an active
member in 4-H for 8 years, having a current flock of 33 Southdown sheep. She earned “Grand
Champion Market Lamb” for the past 5 years at the Bangor State Fair and was a 3 time Penobscot
County Secretary of the year, Representative to Maine and New England 4-H Teen Councils and
National 4-H Teen Congress in Atlanta, GA. She was the 1996 Senior Pre-Teen Maine Titleholder in
the Scholarship and Academic Program and was 4th Runner-up in the National program in Tennessee
in 1997. She completed 10 years in Girl Scouts culminating in the Silver Award. Azure was currently
applying to colleges to study journalism and international relations. She loved to ski and will be
remembered as a hard worker and multi-talented individual. In addition to her parents, she is survived
by her maternal grandmother, Jane M. Freund of Tavernier, FL; paternal grandparents, Wallace and
Clotilde Dillon of Ellensburg, WA; 2 brothers, Skye and Quinn and a sister, Kristin all of Exeter who
loved Azure and will miss her very much; a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends, young
and old. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Tuesday, December 24th at the Cornerstone Baptist
Church, Exeter, with Pastor Stan Griffin officiating. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the
service. Burial will follow in the Exeter Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the Azure Jane Dillon Scholarship Fund, Foxcroft Academy, c/o Jay Brennan, 147 West Main Street,
Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road,
Corinna.
