CARROLL M. DOWNS, SR.
NEWPORT – Carroll M. Downs, Sr., 83, died September 22, 2003 at his Summer Street residence. He was born May 4, 1920 at Dover-Foxcroft a son of Nathan and Florence (Mitchell) Downs. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. Carroll was employed at several area woolen mills, and the Hartland tannery, retiring from Guilford Industries in Newport at the age of 73.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna (Church) Downs of Newport; 2 sons Carroll “Red” Downs, Jr. and wife Marjorie of Newport, Michael Downs and wife Debbie of Hickory, North Carolina; a daughter Deborah and husband Francois Rouillard of Exeter; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a cousin Gloria Collins of Dover-Foxcroft, and a special nephew, Harry Harrington of Indiana; as well as several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Tozier, 2 brothers, Robert and Walter Downs, and a grandson, Scott Downs.

At his request there will be no public viewing. A graveside committal service will be held 1 P.M. Friday, September 26th, at the family lot, Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland, with Pastor Buddy Gough of the Newport Church of God officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
