CHARLES B. NUTE
CARMEL – After a prolonged illness, Charles B. Nute, 88, died peacefully at his home in Carmel, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 6, 1918 at Rochester, MA, a son of Charles and Mary (Hartley) Nute, Sr. He graduated from Wareham [MA] High School and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. After the war, he graduated from Providence Bible Institute, Class of 1948. Mr. Nute was known to children and adults throughout the state of Maine as he ministered faithfully with the American Missionary Fellowship, formerly known as The American Sunday School Union, in church planting and development, providing support to local churches through Bible Studies, Vacation Bible School, Release Time Classes, Victory Bible Camp, and other ministries.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Althea (Washburn), and their children; Beth and Kent Davis, Marge and John Purvis, Chuck and Sharon Nute, Deb and Dave Erickson, Steve and Christi Nute, Jim and Diane Nute, Sharon and John Rowe, John and Sandy Nute, Dot and Kerne Roberts, Gordon and Tammy Nute. He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Harold Moon of Rochester, MA, as well as several nieces and nephews. He enjoyed a close relationship with 25 grandchildren and their spouses, as well as 31 great grandchildren who adoringly called him Grandfather. Predeceasing him, Peter Scott Purvis, Dale Ann Nute, and Stephen Washburn Nute, Jr. welcomed his arrival in heaven.

Mr. Nute will be buried privately at his request at Riverside Cemetery in Newport, Maine. The family invites friends and loved ones to an open house to celebrate his life at the Nute residence in Carmel on Saturday, July 15th from 1 to 5 PM.
