OBITUARIES
CHESLEY P. LOVELL
GUILFORD, Chesley P. Lovell, 82, died March 28, 2001 at a Dover-Foxcroft
hospital. He was born January 2, 1919, in Guilford, son of Ervin and Una
(True) Lovell. After graduating from Guilford High School in 1937, he
enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He graduated from Chicago Aeronautical
University as a mechanic and later volunteered in the Glider program, where
he instructed in Lubbock, Texas. After seven years in the service, he
attended Bechler School of Watch making and was self-employed at Melanson
Jewelry in Guilford. After losing his business by fire in 1970, he was
employed as a clerk at the Guilford Post Office until his retirement. He
was a member of the Guilford Fire Dept. from 1952 to 1988 and served in the
offices of Lieutenant, Captain and Assistant Chief. He is survived by his
wife, Marion (Ridley) Lovell of Guilford; a son and his wife, Barry and
Jo-Ann Lovell of Monson; two grandchildren, Stephen Lovell and Stephanie
Watts; four great grandchildren. At his request there will be no public
services. Private graveside services will be held in the spring at the
Village Cemetery in Abbot. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his
memory to the Guilford Fire Dept. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral
