CHESTER L. EVANS
NEWPORT - Chester L. Evans, 70, died February 5, 2001 at a Pittsfield hospital following a long illness. He was born May 10, 1930 at Guilford the son of Chester D. and Beatrice (Ferris) Evans. Chet served in the U. S. Army shortly after the close of World War II. He was an overhead crane operator in Cleveland, OH, before returning to Maine, where he was employed at Bangor Mental Health Institute for 10 years. He then was a boiler operator at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna until it closed. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Edith (Dufault) Evans, 2 sons Neil and his wife Janet Evans, Kevin and his wife Jody Evans, all of Newport; 6 daughters Cheryl Evans and Barbara Peirce, both of Cocoa, FL, Beatrice and husband Edward Bowman of Newport, Cynthia and husband Mark Kennedy of Hynesville, Georgia, Marilyn and husband Edward Ouellette of Etna, and Andrea and husband Jack Heckle of Palmyra; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2-4 P.M. Wednesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport. A graveside committal service will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Newport.
