CRYSTAL M. SKIDGEL
PLYMOUTH & ETNA Crystal M. Skidgel, 69, died May 31, 2001 at her residence in Etna. She was born December 12, 1931 at Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada the daughter of Joseph and Marjorie (Stone) Barnes. Crystal and her husband, Sidney Skidgel, Sr. owned and operated Skidgel's Warehouse in Freedom for 30 years. She was a Gold Star Mother, and was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary in Newport. The American Legion Post in Newport was renamed Barrows-Skidgel Post 105 in honor of her son Donald, who was killed in Vietnam and had been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously.

In addition to her husband of Plymouth, she is survived by a son Sidney Skidgel, Jr. of Troy; 3 daughters, Diana Stewart of Troy, Carol Small of Etna, and Mildred Skidgel of Florida; a step-son, Robert Guerette of Carmel; and a step-daughter, Diane Button of Caribou; a sister, Edna Kincaid of Texas; 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. In addition to her son Donald, Crystal was also predeceased by a son Robert; and brothers Almond Barnes, Lewis Barnes and Eaton Barnes.

Visitation will be held Saturday and Sunday at Carol Small's home in Etna, located on the Young Road, 1.5 miles from the Etna-Dixmont Exit on I-95. Graveside services will be held 1 P.M. Monday, June 4th, at the family lot, Sawyer Cemetery, Plymouth, with Brother Alwood officiating. Friends may also call at the Small home from 9 A.M. to noon Monday prior to the services at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.
