DEAN S. PIERCE SR
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Dean S. Pierce Sr., 85, passed away at his home in St. Paul, Minn., Dec. 9, 2003. He was born in Dexter, June 26, 1918, second son of Clarence N. and Alma Morrison Pierce. He was a graduate of N.H. Fay High School in Dexter, Class of 1935. He graduated from the school of engineering at the University of Maine in Orono. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. While growing up, Dean traveled every summer with his parents, brother and sister to Ocean Park, ME. In the early '30s, Dean was a bellhop at the Bayview Hotel in Saco. He also worked with his brother, Reynold, digging stumps to allow expansion of the Royal Ambassadors Boys Camp in Ocean Park. His children and grandchildren continue to visit the Pierce cottage in Ocean Park that was built when he was a boy.

He married Ruth MacKay of Old Town, June 8, 1943, and raised four children, Dean Jr., Elizabeth, Christine and Patricia. Dean spent his youth and early adulthood in the Northeast and settled in the greater twin cities of Minneapolis, St. Paul, Minn. While Dean's engineering career took him from large cities in the Northeast to the Midwest, he always provided a rural atmosphere to raise his family. He and his wife instilled their love of the outdoors to their children, along with a respect for tolerance and diversity. Dean maintained his career into his 80s in addition to being an active participant in his children's and grandchildren's endeavors. His spouse of 60 years, son, daughters and their respective spouses plus 10 grandchildren of greater Minneapolis - St. Paul, Minn., survive him. In addition he leaves his older brother, Reynold N. of E. Parsonsfield; and his younger sister, Helen Pierce Morin of Ocean Park. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
