EARL B. HAINES He graduated from the Newark College of Engineering, with a BS in Chemistry in 1938. In 1941 he worked for the Dupont Company as a fuel development engineer. Later during WWII he worked on the Manhattan Project. Earl joined General Electric at the Knolls Atomic Power Lab in 1947. In 1950 he organized, staffed, and managed their manufacturing section, which built the first two atomic power plants for submarines. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Nofer) Haines; two sons, John and William; a granddaughter, Melanie; and a grandson, Todd. He is survived by three grandsons, Mark Haines, Michael Haines, and Steven Haines all of Portland; a granddaughter, Shannon June of FL; two daughters-in-law, Barbara Haines of Dexter, and Linda Haines of NY; three brothers, Charles Haines of NJ, Franklin Haines of TX, and Edwy Haines of FL; two sisters, Frances McIlvain of NJ, and Jeanne Jennings of VA; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday, August 7, 2008 at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Graveside committal services will be held 10 AM Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Mt.
