EDELGARD PHELPS
Edelgard Phelps PALMYRA – Edelgard Phelps, 72, died June 27, 2008 at a Pittsfield healthcare facility. She was born April 5, 1936 at Mainz-Kostel, Germany a daughter of Peter Adam and Margaret (Gruitman) Steyer. She married Raymond Phelps in 1954 in Germany, while he was serving in the U. S. Army. Although she was not able to accompany him to the United States until they were reunited in New York City Thanksgiving Day 1955. They both worked at the Roland Buck Potato and Dairy Farm on the Exeter Road in Corinna. She was later employed at Striar’s Woolen Mill and Snowflake Canning Company in Corinna. She also worked at Clark’s Motel in Newport, the Sebasticook Valley Health Care Facility in Pittsfield, and retired from Dexter Shoe Company in Newport.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raymond, Sr. of Palmyra; a son Raymond, Jr. and wife Susan Phelps of Newport; a daughter and husband, Monica and Kirk Clark of Newport; 2 grandchildren, Tarsha Rideout and Camden Clark. Edelgard was predeceased by a sister, Hohanna Klick in 1991.

Friends may call from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday, July 2nd, with the Rev. Matthew Ward officiating. Burial will be in Corinna Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 170 U. S. Route 1, Suite 250, Falmouth, ME 04105.
