OBITUARIES

ELEANOR G. THOMAS
GARLAND, Eleanor G. Thomas, 95, died at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital on September 18, 2007, after a period of declining health. She was born in Tiverton, RI, June 12, 1912, the daughter of Ruben Franklyn and Sarah Elizabeth Grinnell. She graduated from Morse High School in Bath with a 4 year scholarship to the University of Maine at Orono. There she met Robert Thomas and they married the day after graduation.

She is the last of three siblings, William, Priscilla, and Arlene. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. and son, William F. She was the holder of the Garland Boston Post Cane. She was a member of the Dexter Methodist Church, Garland Grange, and Garland Extension Group. With her green thumb, she raised a large market garden and her vegetables were sold from Dexter to Rockwood. She also raised 3 farmer sons and had 4 farmer grandchildren. A flower garden was her pride and joy. In recent years she enjoyed the companionship of her 2 cats, Sassy and Frisky, who kept her company for 10 years.

She is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Jim and Sandra, and Allan and Elaine, all of Garland; a daughter and her husband, Pat and Bill Harding of San Miguel, Mexico; a son and his wife, Frank and Anita of Corinth; a son Fred of Ajo, AZ; grandchildren, Lisa and Melanie Thomas, Alyce Masters, Mary Wilson, Kevin and Terry Thomas, Karen Rodgers, Ben Thomas, Paul and Missi Thomas; and 16 great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM, Thursday, September 20, 2007, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St. in Dexter. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home, 2:00 PM, Friday, with Pastor Barry Buzzell officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Garland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Building Fund, Garland Baptist Church, P.O. Box 76, Garland, ME 04939.
