OBITUARIES

ELEANOR MURRAY
GREENVILLE, Eleanor Murray, 84, died November 4, 2006, at her home in Greenville. She was born May 4, 1922, in Moose River, the daughter of Henry and Ola (McDaniels) Wintle. Eleanor graduated from Jackman High School in 1940. She met Irvin “String” Murray of Greenville at Pittston Farm and married him in 1942, just before he went overseas during WWII. From 1942 to 1945, she supported the war effort by working for Pratt & Whitney in Hartford, CT.

Upon String’s discharge, they returned to Greenville to begin their family. She worked for 20 years at the Greenville Junction Post Office, eventually being appointed Greenville’s first woman Postmaster.

Eleanor enjoyed golf to the age of 80 and was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. She was an avid reader and patron of the Shaw Public Library. Eleanor loved playing cards with her longtime friends and more recently with nieces and grand nieces. She was interested in education and was very proud of the seven teachers in her family.

More than anything she enjoyed her family, doting on her five grandchildren and her seven great grandchildren. She often planned special activities at the homes of her children or at the family lot on Moosehead Lake.

Eleanor is survived by a special sister, whom she loved very much, Hazel Blackburn and her husband, Robert of Houston, TX; three children, Dale Murray and his wife, Karen of Greenville, Kathryn Murray of Greenville, and Donald Murray and his wife, Regina of Fort Kent; grandchildren, Kristen Leavitt and her husband, Brian of Marshwood, Matthew Murray and his wife, Catherine of Scarborough, Nancy Murray of Somerville, MA, Erin Dow and her husband, Charles of Winthrop, and Jack Murray and special friend, Elizabeth La Pierre of Kennebunkport; great grandchildren, Morgan, Patrick, Cameron, Emily, Ian, Ryan, and Phoebe.

She was predeceased by her adoring husband, “String”; a loving sister, Harriet and her husband Linwood Corson; and a dear brother, Harley Wintle and his wife Alice.

A graveside committal service will be conducted at 11:00 AM at the family lot in the Greenville Cemetery, on Wednesday, November 8, 2006, with the Rev. Dr. Kwan Lee officiating.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2006, at the American Legion Hall in Greenville from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shaw Public Library.

Arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Greenville. To sign an online guestbook, go to www.CrosbyNeal.com.
