FREDERICK S. OLSON
DEXTER, Frederick S. Olson, 88, died February 2, 2005, at a Dexter health care facility. He was born on a farm in Garland, December 17, 1916, the son of John and Gertrude (Pierson) Olson. He attended Garland schools and graduated from Garland High School class of 1934. After high school, Fred lived and worked on the farm until 1964. He was a member of the 4-H Club and served as a local leader of 4-H from 1936 to 1950. Fred joined the Garland Grange in 1934, and served as secretary from 1937 to 1942. He was also a member of the Pomona and State Granges. He was a Past Master and 60 year member of the Pacific Masonic Lodge AF & AM. He was town manager for several local communities including China, Garland, Exeter, Howland, and Bradford. He later was a district agent for Modern Woodmen of America Life Insurance Company.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel (Batchelder) Olson of Dexter; a son David Olson of Marietta, Georgia; a daughter, Diane and her husband, Michael Goodwin of Charlotte, North Carolina; 2 grandchildren, Eric and his wife, Katie Goodwin of Davidson, North Carolina, and Emily Goodwin of Charlotte, North Carolina; a brother, Oscar and his wife, Carolyn Olson of Pittsfield, Mass.; a sister, Ingrid Clark of Portland; 2 special cousins, Pauline Perrin of Florida, and Douglas Rosie of Rhode Island; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 6 to 8 PM, Friday, February 4, 2005, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St. in Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, at the Garland Baptist Church with Pastor Barry Buzzell officiating. Spring burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Garland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Garland Historical Society, c/o Carol Rollins, 13 Upper Garland Road, Garland, ME 04939-4625.

Graveside committal services for Frederick S. Olson, 88, who died February 2, 2005, will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, June 17, 2005, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Garland, with Pastor Barry Buzzell officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.
