OBITUARIES

GEORGE J. KERN
STETSON - George Joseph Kern, 91, died unexpectedly March 6, 2010 at his residence. He was born August 20, 1918 in Kansas City, MO, a son of John and Marie (Meyer) Kern. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, the Rhineland and the Battle of the Ardenne forest with the 89th Cavalry Mechanized Armored Division during World War II.

George had been employed for many years as a transportation manager for a large grocery cooperative. He retired to Cedar Lake in Texas in 1978 and moved to Stetson to live near his daughter and son in law about a year ago. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bangor and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his daughter and husband, Georgia and Dennis Kosciusko of Stetson; 2 grandsons, Joseph Dunn of Seattle, WA, and Frank Dunn of Lake Tahoe, CA; 2 step sons, Ted Owen of Redding, CA and Ricky Owen of Independence, MO. He was predeceased by his 2 wives; as well as brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Jude's Church in Gun Barrel City, Texas. Local arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Those who wish may leave written tributes at www.CrosbyNeal.com.
