GERALD DAY ANGEL
NEWPORT & HARTLAND – Gerald Day Angel, 52, died January 4, 2001 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Hornell, NY, September 2, 1948, the son of Gerald W. and Anna (Day) Angel. Jerry was a 1966 graduate of Canisteo Central High School in Canisteo, NY, where he still held the school backstroke swimming record; and Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY. He later graduated with honors from Unity College. He served in the U. S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. Jerry and his wife Sylvia founded THE ROLLING THUNDER EXPRESS in 1985. He loved publishing the weekly paper. He also loved the outdoors. Jerry was a member of Meridian Splendor Masonic Lodge in Newport, and was past secretary of the Newport Masonic Association. He was a member of the Anah Temple Shrine, Scottish Rite, past vice president of the Tri-County Shrine Club, and the Bangor Court 150 Royal Order of Jesters. Jerry had also been employed previously as a Class A Machinist for 21 years.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sylvia (Smith) Angel; and 2 sons and their wives, Jason and wife Patty Angel of Middleton, MA, Luke and wife Dawn Angel of Corinna; and a very special grand-daughter, Paige Angel; 3 sisters and their husbands, Lois and Bill Whitford of Webster, NY, Mary and Chuck Hults of Troupsburg, NY, Bonnie and Bill Zechmann of Bloomfield, NY; several nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his dog Woody. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Sunday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport. A Masonic memorial service will be held 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 A. M. Monday, January 8th, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield with the Rev. C. James Martel officiating. Spring burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland.
