GERALD L. SPEED
CORINTH—Gerald L. Speed, 88, beloved husband of Winifred (Duran) Speed, died peacefully October 15, 2007, surrounded by his loving family at the Brewer Rehab & Living Center. He was born September 18, 1919 in East Corinth, a son of Arthur G. and Mattie (Gray) Speed. Gerald graduated from East Corinth Academy and was a life-long dairy farmer. He served as selectman for the town of Corinth for eight years as well as tax assessor. He worked for the State of Maine, building roads and driving truck for more than 25 years. He took great pride in his family owned farm, which he enjoyed working on. He was a life-long member of the Charleston Pentecostal Church.

In addition to his loving wife of 68 years, he is survived by a son Spencer L. and wife Paula E. Speed; a daughter Catherine M. Cummings and husband Vaughn; and a daughter-in-law Johannah Speed, all of Corinth; a sister Phoebe J. Wood and husband Robert of Springfield, VA; his grandchildren, Carolyn Libby and husband Michael and children Katrina and Matthew; Richard Speed and wife Stephanie and children Brett, Brianna, and Brooke; Vernon Speed and wife Luanne and children Andrea, Tyler, and Jacob; Paul Speed and wife Erin and children Andrew, Madison, and Rylee, all of Corinth; Loretta April of Rye, NH; Scott Speed and wife Lisa and children Austin, Savannah, and Stetson of Corinth. He was predeceased by a son Vinal L.Speed; a grandson Eric of Corinth; brother A. Elwyn Speed; and 3 sisters Phyllis Speed, Hazel McKusick, and Dorothy Henderson.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday and from noon to 1 PM Thursday at Charleston Pentecostal Church. Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Thursday, October 18th, at the church with the Revs. Ronald Libby, Matthew Ward and Gerald’s nephew Isaiah Hill officiating. Burial will be in Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth.
