GERTRUDE S. (DODGE) NICKERSON
BELMONT - Gertrude S. (Dodge) Nickerson, 76, died peacefully March 1, 2007, surrounded by her family and friends at her home after a strong and courageous battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 10, 1930, in North Brooksville, the daughter of Charles and Annie Mae (Pomeroy) Dodge.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, flower gardening, camping, hunting, fishing, watching the hummingbirds from her screen house, her game shows, her good games of Scrabble and cribbage, and her eight special years raising her great-granddaughter, LeeAnn.

She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Theodore Nickerson; her former husband, LeRoy Bowden; her six brothers and sisters; and her grandson, Nicholas. She is survived by her two sons, Steven D. Bowden and his wife, Edna, of Northport and Dana F. Bowden and his wife, Susan, of Searsmont; her sister-in-law, Pauline Farrar of Brewer; her brother-in-law, Paul Nickerson of Belfast; her grandchildren, Kevin Bowden and his wife, Alexandra, of Northport, Steven D. Bowden II and his wife, Melissa, of Northport, Adam Bowden of Searsmont, Amanda Smith and her husband, Shawn, of Searsmont; her great-grandchildren, Bethani, Sabrina, LeeAnn, Keirstin, Sierra, Jacob, Kyle, Kataleen, Eric and Noah; many nieces, nephews, and many close relatives and friends.

A memorial gathering will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Those who wish may make donations in Gertrude's name to Waldo County Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 407, Belfast, ME 04915.
