GILBERT "GIB" WARREN ADAMS
Veteran NEWPORT – Gilbert “Gib” Warren Adams, 71, died November 10, 2007 at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born January 31, 1936, in Corinna, the son of Burns G. and N. Maude (Promory) Adams, and moved to North Newport at age 1.

Gilbert Gib graduated from Newport High School in 1955. He was employed by Nutter farm for a short time and then moved on to work at Cummings Mill in Newport. In 1958 he went to work for Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut for nine months and then returned to Newport and went to work for Fay Scott in Dexter on March 9, 1959. He served as Conductor and Sentinel in the Union for 20 years and retired in 1988 due to ill health. Gib also served 7 years in the 946th Unit of the Army Reserves in Dexter as a cook.

Gib married Avis E. Reed on June 10, 1961 in Corinna. He and his father raised dry beans for a number of years and was a member of the Maine Bean Growers Association. He was a member of the Parian Lodge A.F. & A.M. #160 of Corinna, the North Newport Grange, Sebasticook Lake Association and the Sebasticook Rifle Club. Gilbert enjoyed attending church services at the Corinna Methodist Church and the North Newport Christian Church, where he grew up. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed working in his garden for as long as he was able.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Avis, his son, Dana and his wife, Becky, grandson Drew, and granddaughter Ivy, all of Newport. He is also survived by a sister, Geraldine (Adams) Richardson and her husband, Wade of Plymouth; a half sister, Zelda (Metivier) Peirce and husband, Lloyd of Newport; a half brother, Dennis Metivier and his wife, Joanne of Corinna; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father and mother; a sister, Dale (Adams) Flint, and half brother, Ralph Metivier.

Visiting hours will be held at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street in Newport, from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday, November 13th, with a Masonic Service at 6 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home, Wednesday, November 14th, at 1 PM, with Rev. Terence McKinley officiating. Burial will be in the North Newport Cemetery followed by a reception at the Masonic Hall in Newport. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Parian Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Corinna or to Newport Fire and Rescue. Envelopes for donations will be available at the funeral home.
