HARRY A. 'BRUD' SANDERS III
GREENVILLE - Harry A. "Brud" Sanders III, 82, former Greenville res-ident and businessman, died April 2, 2005, in Concord, N.H. Mr. Sanders was born July 11, 1922, in Greenville, to Harry A. Sanders Jr. and Katherine (Lord) Sanders. He graduated from Green-ville High School in 1939 and attended Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, Bryant & Stratton School of Business in Boston and business school in Chapel Hill, N.C. In 1944, he received a commission as an ensign in the Naval Reserve and was trained as a naval aviator and navigator. Later in life, he learned to fly floatplanes and at age 71 learned to fly helicopters.

Following his military service, he returned home to Greenville and joined the family business D.T. Sanders and Son (Sanders Store, est. 1857). There he worked along side his father, Harry Jr. and his uncle, Paul Sanders. Eventually, he took over the business and worked there until the sale of the store in 1982. He also ran Sanders Real Estate and opened the first ski-shop at Squaw Mountain. In retirement, Mr. Sanders lived in St. Simons Island, Ga., Wesley Chapel, Fla. and Augusta.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Claire Webster Sanders, currently of Concord, N.H.; three daughters, Suzanne McKendry of Hopkinton, N.H., Judy Enright of Skowhegan, Carol Sheehan of Londonderry, N.H.; and his nephew, James M. "Pete" Sanders of Falmouth. He also leaves grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and cousins. Mr. Sanders was predeceased by his mother, Kate; his father, Harry Jr.; and his brother, Colonel James O. Sanders, USAF, retired.

The family will hold private services later in the spring in Greenville. Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Shaw Public Library, P.O. Box 510, Greenville, ME 04441.
