OBITUARIES

HERBERT W. DAVIS
PALMYRA, Herbert W. Davis, 84, died September 14, 2007, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born August 15, 1923, in Hartland, son of Erwin and Winnie (Aiken) Davis. He served in the US Army during WWII, and was a member of the American Legion.

He worked for many years as a carpenter locally, and then retired from Dexter Shoe in 1995, where he worked as a night watchman.. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed gardening and working with his tractor. Herbert was a great storyteller and loved telling tales of the escapades of his younger years. He also enjoyed fishing. For the past few months he had been making his home at the Baron Center in Portland, where he had been receiving outstanding care.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (McKenzie) Davis of Davis Corner in Palmyra; 2 daughters, Debbie and her husband, John Murray of Newport, and Linda Whitman of Carthage, NC; 5 grandchildren, Steve and Jenni Morrell, Angie Frederick, Amy Chambers, and Mandy Whitman; and 2 nieces. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Grace Woodman and Jean Crawford.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, September 18th at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St. in Newport.
