IVA C. EMERY
NEWPORT – Iva C. Emery, 86, died November 10, 2002 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born September 10, 1916 at Dexter a daughter of Elwin and Addie (Nutt) White. Iva attended Dexter and Garland schools, and moved to Newport where she had made her home for the past 70 years. She worked at the Moosehead Woolen Mill, Eastland Woolen Mill, Snow Flake Canning Company, Northeast Shoe Company, and, lastly, the Edward’s Company, until her health declined. She was a member of the Barrows-Skidgel Post 105 American Legion Auxiliary of Newport, and a past member of the Newport Grange and the Victoria Rebecca Lodge. She was an active outdoors person who loved her camp at Wilson Pond, to fish at Lobster Lake, and hunting. She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, spending time with her family, and her special little dog Chucky.

Iva is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ernest Q. Emery, Jr. of Newport; 3 daughters, Joyce McLaggan and her husband Delbert of Detroit, Carol Price of Newport, Pat Humphrey and her husband Richard of Detroit; a step-daughter Evelyn Adamek and her husband Milan of Gardiner; 3 grandchildren, Debbie McLaggan and companion Wayne Stilphen of Gardiner, Kevin McLaggan and his wife Annette of South China, Clinton Hurlburt and his fiancée Sara Brooks of Unity; 2 great grandchildren, Kyle McLaggan of South China and Hearther Hurlburt of Hillsboro, Oregon; several nieces and nephews. Iva was predeceased by 2 sisters, Edna Seavey of Newport, and Inez Hamilton of Dexter, and a brother, Floyd “Red” White of Dexter.

Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Wednesday with the Rev. George Darling officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newport.
