JAMES K. EDES
James Edes DEXTER AND GUILFORD - James K. Edes, 87, passed away in his sleep at his home in Dexter on August 24, 2008. He was born in Guilford on June 25, 1921, the son of Dana H. and Maybelle (Sawyer) Edes. He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Giles) Edes. He was an active member of the Universalist Church in Dexter and Guilford, the Civil Air Patrol, Dexter Municipal Golf Course, Dexter Areo Club, American Legion, a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Force in North Africa and Italy, helped install the cable television pole lines in Dexter without pay, led the effort to keep Plummer Hospital opened, and was a pilot and airplane mechanic restoring his last airplane at the age of 83. He was a ham radio enthusiast, golfer, fisherman, skier, and musician, playing in the Dexter Band for many years. He was an adult leader for Boy Scouts in Guilford and a charter member of the Guilford Kiwanis. He was charitable and dutiful, of keen intellect, boundless in energy, and extraordinary in will power to the end. Before retirement, he was an executive with Guilford Industries, Amos Abbott Co., and Miller industries, and always concerned for workers.

He was self-educated beyond high school and is survived by three children, Rev. Mary Edes-Kull and Dr. Stephen Kull of Silver Lake, N.H., Daniel Edes PhD. of Rochester, NY, and Joseph Edes M. Ed. of Dexter; his sister, Edith Allen, wife of the late William Allen of Ellsworth; his brother in-law and wife Frank and Susie Giles, and Joyce Giles, wife of the late Billy Giles, all of Unadilla, GA; three grandchildren, Eliza Camire, Kelsey Camire, and Christopher Edes; and many nieces and nephews in whom he took an active interest. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, daughter-in-law Ellen West Edes, and two sons, Michael (infant), and William Edes.

On Saturday August 30, 2008 two services will be held: a 1:00 P.M. graveside service at Lawn Cemetery in Guilford, and a memorial service at the First Universalist Church in Dexter at 3:00 P.M.
