JAMES R. NEWCOMB
CARMEL – James Robert Newcomb, 70, husband of Lillian Pearl (Hyson) Newcomb, died January 12, 2001 peacefully in his sleep. He was born October 2, 1930 in Carmel the second child of Clyde and Nettie (Hand) Newcomb. He graduated from Carmel High School, Class of 1948, and attended electronics technical school in Chicago for two years. While in high school his basketball team won the state championship in 1947. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and will be remembered as a proud sportsman and member of the National Rifle Association. He was also an avid gardener and bird lover.

Jimmy was predeceased by his father and a brother, Richard Newcomb.

He is survived by many relatives and friends. In addition to his wife and mother, both of Carmel, he is survived by 5 children, Keven and wife Cynthia Newcomb of Standish, Aaron and wife Lori Newcomb of Exeter, Patricia Dearborn and husband Glen Glazior of Stetson, Pamela Cohen and her friend John McKinnon of Veazie, and Pastor Timothy Newcomb and wife Cindy of Carmel; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister, Connie (Newcomb) Graves and husband Marvin also of Carmel.

Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Sunday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Monday, January 15th, with his son, Pastor Timothy Newcomb officiating. Spring burial will be in the family lot, Highland Cemetery, Carmel.
