JOHN "JOHNNY" JEWETT
John R. JewettDEXTER – John R. Jewett, 79, died July 10, 2006 at home. He was born December 6, 1926 at Dover-Foxcroft a son of Stanley and Clara (Mitton) Jewett. Johnny served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, and was honorably discharged from the Navy Reserves July 20, 1950. On July 1, 1961 he married the former Anita Gould. He worked at the Hartland Tannery and Dexter Shoe, but will be most remembered as a lifelong musician playing the drums, trumpet, piano and organ. He played over the years at the Dexter Motor Lodge and the Sterling Hotel in Dexter and also had a band, “JJ and the Nighthawks”. He was an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan and was a member of the Poulliot-Seavey Post 53 American Legion in Dexter.

In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is survived by his children, Diane and husband Raymond Clukey, John “Jay” Jr. and wife Gail Jewett, all of Dexter; a brother Larry of Lincoln; and 3 sisters in law, Florence Jewett of Troy, Marge Deering of Ripley, and Emily Gould of Corinna; grandchildren, Scott Clukey and Rachel Meyers, Sarah and Mark Cooper, and Lucas Jewett; several nieces and nephews. Johnny was predeceased by a great grandson, Griffin Scott Clukey; brothers Stanley and Harold; and a sister, Evelyn Tardy.

At his request, there will be no visitation. A graveside committal service will be held 2 PM Friday, July 14th at Ferndale Cemetery, Ripley, with Pastor A. Maurice Neal officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 51 U. S. Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074.
