OBITUARIES

JOSEPH W. WHEELER
SKOWHEGAN – Joseph W. Wheeler, 81, died May 2, 2004 following a brief illness. He was bornJanuary 5, 1923 at Hartland a son of Edward and Mildred (Stewart) Wheeler. He had worked for much of his life as a self-employed woodsman, but had retired from Dexter Shoe Company as a shipping foreman. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Newport. Joe was predeceased by his wife, Pauline (Cross) Wheeler, and by a sister, Eva Herring.

He is survived by a son, Donald Wheeler of CT, 2 daughters, Hildreth Shaw of Hartland, and Dorene Lewis of CT; 2 brothers, Louis Wheeler of Skowhegan and James Wheeler of NH; a brother-in-law, Perley Goodrich, Sr. of Newport; 2 sisters, Esther Stewart of Skowhegan, and Betty Lou Wheeler of Otisfield; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and 2 good friends, Dan Staples and Doris Works.

There will be no visitation. A graveside funeral service will be held 1 PM Wednesday, May 5th, at Morses Corner Cemetery, Corinna. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.
