LILLIAN M. LONG
East Newport - Lillian M. Long, 88 died Friday July 26, 2002 at Birch Grove Nursing Care Facility following a long illness. She was born in Patten, Maine Sept. 26, 1913 the daughter of Andrew and Gladdis Stockford Garnett. She was educated in Dixmont and Newport schools. Lillian married Lawrence E. Long of LaGrange on Feb. 21, 1931 and they resided in Newport. Lawrence Predeceased her on May 24, 1978. Lillian worked as a housekeeper for Mary Payne and she also worked at the Log Cabin Diner and Bradstreet Farms in Newport. She was a member of the Eastville Grange in East Newport and a member of the Rebeccas. She was also volunteered with the local 4-H group, the American Legion Auxiliary and several other organizations over the years. She loved to knit and crochet mittens and afghans for local charities and volunteer at Meal for Me. Lillian loved her flower and vegetable gardens taking pride in her ability to grow tomatoes like no one else.

She is survived by five children, three sons, Elmer Long and his wife Gloria of Plymouth, Doug Long and his wife Herther of Florida, Robert Long and his wife Joyce of Etna, two daughters, Joan Driggers of South Carolina and Gertrude Bewing and her husband Don of California, twenty three grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Larry, two brothers Earl and Sam Garnett, and two grandsons, Gay and Jeffrey Long.

Graveside Funeral Services will be conducted 3:00 pm Friday Aug. 2, 2002 at Sawyer Cemetery Plymouth with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home Newport. To place an online tribute Please visit : www.philipbrownfuneralhome.com
